Become a Volunteer Ranger!
If you enjoy the countryside, are enthusiastic about our stunning landscape and would like to meet like-minded people, you may want to consider becoming a Volunteer Ranger.
The Forgotten Landscapes Project is expanding and developing a Volunteer Ranger Service that aims to help conserve, enhance and promote the area within the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site. Volunteer Rangers are needed for a range of roles including practical conservation work, wildlife monitoring, engaging with visitors and helping others to understand what makes the Forgotten Landscapes so special.
Examples of volunteer work and training opportunities include:
- Dry stone walling and stock fencing.
- Footpath management and other access improvement work.
- Reed-bed planting and other habitat management activities.
- Wildlife monitoring.
- Helping to develop and learn to lead guided walks.
- Conducting visitor surveys.
Volunteer Rangers hold an informal meeting once a month at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and you are welcome to come along. Three typical volunteer role descriptions are available to download on this page. These are designed to help you to find out more or alternatively, you can arrange to come along and observe a volunteer task to see what it’s like.
