Forgotten Landscapes -
Scheme Update April 2009
|
As reported in the last edition of
Heritage News the Forgotten Landscapes Partnership
was awarded a Stage 1 Pass by the Heritage Lottery
Fund in October 2008. The next step is to turn our
excellent ideas into deliverable projects.
Between January and August we will
be developing our ideas and to get through such a
lot of work we have engaged specialist consultants
to work out plans for the delivery of our project
ideas.
At various stages they will want
to seek the community’s views on their
recommendations. So you can look forward to a few
more workshops where your views will play an
important role in influencing final plans. |

We are developing proposals to:
-
Protect a number of industrial sites
including the Southern entrance of the Pwll Ddu tunnel
-
Improve land management to help rare
species, such as red grouse, to recover
-
Make new routes through the landscape
so that more people can reach the many interesting
places
-
Improve visitor information and
develop ‘state of the art’ site interpretation
-
Develop plays and story lines with
schools and youth groups to celebrate the area’s
heritage
-
Provide training opportunities in
conservation skills for local people and volunteers
If you have been involved before, we will
be in touch. If not, and you see an advert for a Forgotten
Landscapes consultation event, please come along and help
make this project work for Blaenavon and the surrounding
area.
